Karel du Jardinstraat Amsterdam
Sleek profiles adorn the facades of apartment building
In the heart of the Pijp, part of the city's South district, work is underway on a 77-flat apartment building on Karel du Jardinstraat. The first phase, the renovation of the upper section of the building, was completed in 2019; the second phase, the realisation of the lower section, is currently in progress. The recently completed upper section is full of character – the large windows and brick walls are in perfect balance. Merford made a significant contribution towards this aesthetic; we supplied and fitted the profiles and frames for the glass facades and windows. We also installed the curtain wall in the stairwell and fitted the doors.

Construction, Residential buildings
Clothes factory
The buildings on Karel du Jardinstraat were constructed almost a hundred years ago, in the 1920s and 1930s. They now form part of the De Karel apartment complex, together with the new building that is to be completed in the second phase. For several decades, much of the building was home to a clothing factory. In the 1980s, the building was renovated and used as a district office.
Rental apartments
After being unoccupied for a number of years, the building was purchased in 2015 by property developer Caransa, who in recent years has transformed the building into a complex with rental apartments for the mid-market segment. The lift and stairwell are located on the right, behind the glass facade. These open onto the roof, where residents can enjoy the charming rooftop terrace and the exceptional views of the surrounding neighbourhoods.
Janisol Arte 66
Merford is involved in both the first and the second phase of the project via contractor Hillen & Roosen. We supplied and installed the Jansen Janisol Arte 66 profiles for the windows and glass sections. This profile system has a sleek appearance, making it particularly suitable for renovation projects such as this. For some of the windows, Janisol Arte 66 was installed for the first time with the stop and turn/tilt function.
